So that was 2011. No major surprises in my top 25 most listened to artists. In fact it’s a pretty good summing up of my favourite albums. Although obviously not in that order, it just goes to show that I was listening to what I write about. And with that, I bid 2011 a fond farewell. I hope and trust that you had a Merry Christmas and a great New Year. Fingers crossed your head and waistline didn’t take too much of a battering. Here’s to 2012. May it bring you everything you want!

Just another quick post but one for a worthwhile reason. In four weeks, two friends of mine are heading off to trek across the Sahara for charity and they’re looking to raise as much money as they possibly can. So far they’ve raised nearly £2,500 and are looking to spend these last few weeks giving the fundraising a big final push. Which is where this post comes in as they’re auctioning off a one of a kind piece of music memorabilia in the shape of a storyboard for Franz Ferdinand‘s ‘Walk Away’ video signed by the band. Which I think you’ll agree is pretty special. All the money raised from the auction will go to the Cash For Kids charity, so if you’re a fan of Franz Ferdinand and want to own a unique piece of memorabilia while doing something altruistic, get bidding.

Unless you’ve been living down a well, you probably already know that PJ Harvey releases her excellent new album ‘Let England Shake’ today. It’s been picking up plaudits and critical acclaim like they’re going out of fashion and deservedly so. It really is a stunning record. I wrote about it a couple of weeks ago so won’t go into much more about it, suffice to say that, despite still being in the early part of the year and with quite a few big hitters with up coming releases, it’s already a contender for album of the year.

I really need to pull my finger out. Everywhere I look, I’m seeing End of Year lists popping up left, right and centre. On blogs, in magazines and now on Facebook feeds. Yet I’m no closer to shortlisting mine than I was at the beginning of the month. At this rate, I should be ready to publish it sometime in March. Not that I’ve any kind of valid excuse. It’s just that this year is proving to be something of a mammoth task. To date, I’ve spent the last week or so listening back to potential inclusions, re-evaluating records I’d previously dismissed and questioning those I’d assumed would be dead certs. The result is that I’m adding just as many as I’m crossing out. Not because there are so many amazing records, more that there are so many balanced on the great/mediocre divide and I can’t quite decide on which side some actually lie.

I woke up this morning to two seperate emails telling me that PJ Harvey‘s new album would be streaming on her website today. So I thought I’d do a quick update to tell you about it. However, unless I’m being particularly dim witted, I can’t find it anywhere on the site at the moment, so I therefore can’t make any comment on it. However as one of the emails came from someone at Vagrant Records, I’m pretty sure it’ll be up be up at some point today, so it’ll be worth checking back regularly.
