Five Things I’ve Been Loving This Week

February 29th, 2016

Iggy Pop‘Post Pop Depression’. If reports are to be believed and this is to be Iggy’s final album, he’s bowing out in style with a corker of an album that can hold its own alongside his key 70s solo records.

RJD2‘Deadringer’. I rediscovered this 2002 hip-hop classic this week purely by accident while searching for another CD. Had completely forgotten how good it is. If you love ‘Endtroducing’, chances are you’ll get a lot out of this.

Suede‘Night Thoughts’. For me, this isn’t quite as good as the reviews suggest. It has neither the grandiose pomp of Dog Man Star, nor the slinky, sleazy, youthful vigour of their debut. That said, it’s still a great album that continues the creative resurgence that began with ‘Bloodsports’. Still haven’t had a chance to watch the accompanying film though.

Savages‘Adore Life’. This is worth it for the (kind of) title track alone. Thankfully the rest of the album is just as good. Ever so slightly less concerned with its own self importance, this may prove itself to be better than their debut.

Micheal Stipe’s beard. Just saying.
