To Die By Your Side

Yeah! Yeah!

February 2nd, 2011

Call me petty if you want but as undeniably good as this session version of ‘Song 2’ is, it really grates on me everytime Damon Albarn sings ‘wa-hoo’ instead of ‘woo-hoo’. It just doesn’t sound right and sticks out like a sore thumb. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t turn me into a seething pit of rage or anything but it just seems so obviously wrong. I get the exact same feeling when someone says ‘pacific’ instead of ‘specific’. Or ‘aks’ instead of ‘ask’. I mean, it’s not that hard is it, y’know, to say words properly?! It’s probably best I don’t tell you that I judge people when I see a mis-use of ‘there’ and ‘their’ but let’s just say I do and it’s a lot. What can I say, I guess I’m just a mini grammar fascist.

To be fair though, if that’s the biggest problem I’ve got with this song then frankly, it’s not really worth getting my knickers in a twist over. After all, this is one of those rare beasts. A song that suffers from being overplayed yet one which never ever manages to sound tired or stale. No matter how many times I hear it, it always sounds fresh and vital. In terms of representing how the song makes you feel, the video got it spot on because whenever the chorus kicks in, you do just involuntarily want to throw yourself around a room and bounce of the walls.
