To Die By Your Side

You Should Be Careful

June 16th, 2010

If I was going to make a horror film, I’d want Liars to soundtrack it. And I’m not talking about one of those join the dots, post modern, self referencing horror films where some nutter in a mask stalks stupid, unappealing teenagers in various states of undress. I’m talking real horror. With deep psychological terror. Where it’s not just the characters that feel threatened but the audience too. If ever you needed proof that Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are one of the best live bands you could see, this session version of ‘From Her To Eternity’ would surely provide it. It’s a visceral performance. Manic. At times Nick sounds utterly unhinged, virtually spitting the words out as though possessed by a demon. Yet for all his wild ranting, he’s anchored by a band who have complete control over the maelstrom of noise they’re creating.
